Reclaimed 2009

These images were made in St Andrews, Victoria, after the February 2009 fires. They were captured before the final clean up which eradicated any trace of the burned homes.

Long after the impact of the devastating fires on Black Saturday had passed, it occurred to me that these mere objects had been reclaimed by nature, not quite consumed by the fire and each object had a personal story to tell.

I walked around my friend’s property and as I photographed, he recounted stories from anothertime. These utilitarian, everyday objects are represented as small scale, intimate prints which serve as moments of reflection.

Photogravure with Chine Colle.
Plate size: 20x20cm. Edition of 20.
